ALLOPHYCOCYANIN Fluorescent Protein (Part APC-1-FIVE)

Allophycocyanin (APC) is a fluorescent protein with high absorbtivity and high quantum efficiency and can be 

conjugated to proteins for fluorescent detection.  Allophycocyanin is attached to proteins using standard cross-

linking techniques. Proteins conjugated with APC are used for cell sorting, flow cytometry, FRET, and ELISA.  

APC is isolated from cyanobacteria algae in the Spirulina genus.

Preparations Before Use: 

APC is supplied and stored in ammonium sulfate solution.  Therefore, APC needs to be re-suspended and 

dialyzed until no visible precipitates remain and ammonium sulfate is removed.  Use PBS or your conjugation 

buffer (1 ml of APC to 1 liter of buffer) to dialyze.

Storage:  4oC.  Avoid light exposure.
