APPLICATIONS:

Formic Acid (Methanoic Acid) applications include: dyeing and finishing of textile, leather processing, chemicals (formates, oxalic acid, organic esters), manufacture of fumigants, insecticides, refrigerants, solvents for perfumes, lacquers, electroplating, brewing (antiseptic), silvering glass, cellulose formate, natural latex coagulant, ore flotation, vinyl resin plasticizers, rust removal, and preservative in animal feed.

SAFETY:

Flammable liquid and vapor. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) when handling. Formic Acid is considered a ‘fuming’ liquid, which refers to the tendency of the liquid to release vapors that can irritate the mucous membranes and skin. In storage, containers should be in a cool, well-ventilated area and segregated from bases and oxidizing agents. Use only outdoors (or in a well-ventilated area). Avoid extreme heat. Keep away from sources of ignition. Always observe good personal hygiene measures, and routinely wash work clothing and protective equipment to remove contaminants.
