Human Adrenal Cortical CellsHuman Adrenal Cortical Cells are primary cells derived from pooled human fetal adrenal cortical tissue from multiple donors of mixed gender. The fetal adrenal cortex comprises two zones—the fetal and definitive zones—while the adult cortex includes the zona glomerulosa, zona fasciculata, and zona reticularis. These cells, typically grown as adherent monolayers, are organized in cord-like structures in vivo and display morphological heterogeneity, including smaller round cells in the zona glomerulosa and polyhedral cells in the fasciculata and reticularis. They actively secrete hormones, cytokines, and peptides, and express key steroidogenic enzymes such as CYP11B1, CYP17A1, and StAR. The cells interact with local immune related signals such as IL-1, IL-6, and VIP released by adrenal macrophages.
